『The Japanese Ideology Chapter 7』
One year after ‘The Japanese Ideology,’ of which all six chapters were presented as a YPAM Direction pieces at YPAM2023, a performance will be held outside in Uraga, Yokosuka City. 1859, Japan’s first dry dock, the Uraga Ship Dock, was completed. The place is called ‘Uraga Dock. The surrounding area was a mammoth housing complex overlooking the sea. The ‘Kamome Danchi (public housing)’ was built 110 years later, in 1969, and occupancy began in 1970, the year Expo’70 was held. The area is divided into east and west by an inlet. The east and west sides are divided by a cove, and traffic comes and goes via ferry boats. The Kamome complex is on the east side, and dragonflies are flying overhead. The path to the ferry landing on the east side has a high fence and barbed wire, so the cove cannot be seen. Atagoyama Park, located on the west side, is the oldest park in the city, opened in 1891, and offers a panoramic view of the cove from the west. The whistle of Chapter 7 echoes from the Uraga Dock.
