An Artistic Phenomenon on Tokyo’s Remote Island: Kouzushima
This art project unfolds across the remote island, where the rhythms of life differ greatly from those of the city. On Kouzushima—an island where majestic landscapes stretch seamlessly from sea to mountain—we explore how confronting and coexisting with such powerful nature can transform our senses.
The project features a touring performance in which artists engage in bodily expression, music, and other live actions. By distancing ourselves from the urban environment and immersing in themes such as “drifting,” “the awe and threat of nature,” and “vastness,” artists and audiences together create a unique shared experience and sense of time. Through this, we sharpen our bodies and perceptions alongside the presence of art.
On April 28, we will hold the opening performance of this project at the Umewaka Noh Theatre.
